Carl Friedrich is one of the most prominent pro Prussian voices in the Rhineland leading the movement in Saarsland
Carl Friedrich completed his metallurgical training at the Frieburg Mining Academy from 1818 and in Berlin from 1820 .
Carl Friedrich joined the family business in 1825 and worked at the Neunkirchen Ironworks. In 1828, after the death or departure of his two brothers, his father took over sole management of the company and brought his son into the business.
He married Marie Luise Böcking in 1834. This marriage strengthened the Stumms' relationship with the Böcking family. It also fostered good relations with the Prussian royal family.
