Born in Fez in 1803, Sidi Muhammad grew up as the eldest son of the Al-alawi royal house. When his father, Moulay Abd al-Rahman, ascended the throne in 1822 he served as the Makhzan´s primary military and administrative pillar. Sidi Muhammad regularly commandeds royal harka expeditions to reassert central authority, collect taxes, and suppress tribal unrest across the countryside, enforcing stability.
