David Governeur Burnet was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1787. His first foray into business was a disaster, as his attempts to invest into and salvage the counting house he worked at ended in disaster, leaving him destitute and futureless.
When General de Miranda came to the New York looking for volunteers to join him in his campaigns across South America to liberate it from Spain, Burnet was counted among his ranks, serving for 6 years before the surrender of de Miranda left him disillusioned and he returned to the United States.
Burnet attempted to launch multiple ventures in Texas, including a Mining Company and settlement as an empresario. He eventually rose to prominence during the Texan Revolution, when he managed to assume the position of Interim President of Texas through shrewd politicking. A position that gave him leadership of the Texans from Galveston to Paramaribo.
Politically, he's an advocate for the internal development of the Texan economy through investment into the Amazon Frontier, expansion of the Georgetown shipbuilding industries, and immigration from the Americas. He believes that the natives of the Americas ought to be civilized through assimilation and enlightenment under God.
He has a known friendship with Mirabeau Lamar and a long-standing rivalry with Samuel Houston.
