Biography

Samuel Houston was born in Rockbridge, Virginia, in 1793. His career began with military service in the war of 1812,  rising to the rank of First Lieutenant before a dispute between himself and then Secretary of War John C. Calhoun over his conduct and relations with the Cherokee.

Houston successfully entered American politics in Tennessee shortly after, securing a seat in the House before later serving as Governor of Tennessee. Shortly after, while travelling to Arkansas to meet with a tribe of Cherokee,1 rumors of an imminent Revolution diverted Houston to Texas.

Shortly after his arrival, the Texan revolution fully broke out, with Houston setting up the foundation of a provisional government and Commander-in-Chief of the Texan Army. With news of the siege of Alamo reaching him, Houston departed early to relieve the siege, costing him the Presidency to the politicking of David Burnet. While he saw some success in Texas, much of his legacy has been overshadowed by Napoleon II's own presence on the battlefield.

Politically, Houston is restrained by pressure from Burnet. While the two are supposed to work together, the two have long attributed each other for the worst mistakes and woes Texas has faced, leading to a long-standing rivalry. Alongside this, his dispute with John C. Calhoun has resulted in a long-standing mutual hostility over his actions in the United States. He believes the rights of natives ought to be protected and guaranteed; a position that has won him a few powerful enemies over the years.
