Authoritarian
José Rafael Carrera y Turcios is a revolutionary motivated more by personal animus than a sense of idealism. Born to native parents in the most rural reaches of Guatemala, Carrera never learned to read and lived a simple life. During the instability of the 30s, Carrera took advantage of the dissatisfaction with Morazán's second presidency to style himself a local leader and guerilla. Though tensions have since died down, Carrera continues to agitate against Morazán, motivated more by personal animus than by devout ideals of his financial supporters.
