Reformer
José Felipe Mariano Gálvez is a jurist and politician who rose to prominence soon after Central America declared its independence. An orphan of unknown parentage adopted by the wealthy Gálvez family, he was the very first President of Congress in 1825. He formed a close friendship with Francisco Morazán when the two fought alongside one another in the Civil War.
A staunch liberal despite his privileged background, Gálvez is a strong proponent of anti-clerical reform. He served as governor of Guatemala in the 30s, though he ultimately resigned due to his unpopularity with the Guatemalan people. He continues to serve as an elector and Congressman for the Liberal Party.
