From the Palais de l'Elysée Louis-Napoléon and Napoléon François Joseph make a public address
Louis-Napoléon start :
“Citizens of France, I thank you for your trust and allowing me to walk back in Paris peacefully despite your doubts. These elections divided France too much and the betrayal of the electoral committee brought Chaos to Paris and France. Now that I was able to bring the order back to France, I have some announcement for you. First I welcome back my cousin Napoléon François Ferdinand, heir of the Emperor. The corrupted radicals tried to prevent him from coming back home as many were worried about his practice of slavery but he freed his slaves and still came back when France needed the most. I will let him continue the announcement.”
Napoléon François Joseph take his turn, with notes in his hand contrary to his cousin
“French citizens, from whom I was for too long, unjustly separated ! It warms my heart to be able to be among you today. I know many of you disapprove of the lifestyle I had in America but I can assure you it won't impact our politics. As proof of that, I officially announce to you that slavery will be banned anywhere in France from now. Even in the colonies !”
Applause and cheer occur
“Now, I will return the parole to my cousin and my most trusted ally to talk about the resolution of matters I wasn't able to go through with you as he did.”
“Thank you Napoléon François. First,
I will announce to you about the new constitution. Be reassured, I made it from the revolutionary constitution and only expanded it to assure that those periods of trouble such as the one we crossed won't happen again. First, as the presidential election was the cause of so much trouble in the country, we will abolish the fonction, Napoléon Joseph and I will be consuls of France. We will be in charge of appointing the government and assuring the security of the nation.
The silence of the crowd is only broken by some isolated boo
“But universal suffrage will be kept for the national assembly. No more cent, every man a vote. “
“Sigh of relief are heard
As the last election results were at best doubtful, I asked Charles Fourier, a man of integrity who was among the first to call at the committee corruption, to find honest men to organize new elections. We’ll also investigate the previous committee to confirm or not their culpability. The chamber of pairs will be replaced by a new senate, elected from representatives of the military and the civil servants to assure the coherency of the state and the respect of the constitution. A first election will be organized in some months when we’ll have solidified the control of the government.
The new constitution will recognize and follow the declaration of the rights of man of the first republic.”
Surprise and cheer in the crowd
“The death penalty for political crimes will be abolished.
Further search to arrest Gramont who instigated rebellion against the republic will be held.
Copies of the constitution will be published in every journal
Citizens of France, brave heroes who had gone though these time of troubles with us, I thank you for your attention and will let my dear cousin, friend and co-consul the final words”
Napoléon François finish with
“Thank all of you for your trust, long life and glory to the Republic, to the Bonapartes, to France and foremost of all to you the French !”
Cheer and applause accompany the two cousins as they return inside the palace
