Following a brutal raid upon a Maroon camp by President Lamar, multiple documents were recovered including previously reported plans to spark a slave uprising similar to that seen in Guyana. However, President Lamar has come out to claim earlier today that, after an analysis of the plans and munitions that were in their hands, it is the conclusion of the Lamar Administration that the Maroons were being supplied by Venezuelan Terrorists that were being harbored in New Granada.
While New Granada is still yet to respond to the allegations of the Lamar administration, the Whigs question the legitimacy of the evidence. However, it seems like most of the House and Senate of Texas aren't interested in questioning the evidence behind President Lamar's claims. After the successful annexation of Venezuela, many of them are eager to see continued expansion of Texas, and perhaps their own holdings too, into the rich lands New Granada. However, many of them are questioning whether or not President Lamar is fit to lead that next round of expansion.
The annexation of Venezuela has left Texas pushed to its limit, still in debt and deficit as it is burdened by massive taxes and budget cuts. Furthermore, his mental health is reported to have significantly suffered due to the stresses of office, with a few former staffers claiming that the President occasionally experience periods of insanity. Unless President Lamar can produce a solution that ends the fiscal crisis and allows his dreams of expansion, the legislature of Texas may seek a replacement President to realize their ambitions.
