Though apparently not present for the London Conference negotiations on the issue of Belgium and the Netherlands due to sickness, it seems that Prince Metternich of Austria, Minister for Foreign Affairs, has been kept abreast of the developing situation there.
It's been revealed that several solutions and compromises have been proposed all to the agreement of the Great Powers and the Netherlands, but acceptance of the conditions have been stymied at every turn by the Belgian foreign minister, Felix Blomme.
Correspondence between Prince Metternich, his aides, and other diplomats have been leaked - in these letters, it's been revealed that Metternich has made very clear the poor opinion he has of Blomme.
"Woe for Belgium! Their recognition that they have fought so hard for is jeopardized by a fool and a petulant baby that knows not how to compromise. It's as if I'm twenty years younger. Though then, I dealt with greater men."
From this, it can only be concluded that the powers of the conference have not reached an agreement - perhaps they will never reach one. This could lead to the breakout of war once again in the Low Countries. Perhaps this is a ramification spreading all the way back from the time of the failed Congress of Vienna - diplomacy has failed where it should have succeeded.
