Over the past month, rumors have been swirling across the country that Venezuela was intending to march on Texas to end a border dispute originating in colonial times, proving a source of great anxiety within the nation. This was only heightened last week when rumors of the Doomsday Letter, a letter from Peru-Bolivia threatening to assist Venezuela in its invasion of Texas. Earlier today, Interim Secretary of War Lamar held a speech outside Congress announcing that the Doomsday Letter is real, even reading it out as a part of his speech, which has been provided for readers below.
"Now, I hear that many of you are scared. Scared that you'll have your homes stripped away. That your families will be driven into the seas once again. And I'm sorry to say, so very sorry to say, that those fears are justified. About a week ago, the Senate received a letter from the Dictator of La Paz, Andrés de Santa Cruz. Within it, he speaks through euphemism and lies of neutrality, threatening not just the sovereignty our ally Brazil over the so called 'insult' of seeking a fair and peaceful resolution to a border dispute between them, but that of our very Republic. He threatens us, promising to provide aid and comfort to the tyrants of Venezuela in their war against Texan freedom should we refuse to defend our allies as they have defended us. And for those who disbelieve, in their naivety, ignorance, or fear, I read that letter out to you now.
'To the Senate of Texas,
We Bolivians ask that you reconsider your alliance with Brazil. Brazil has done us a great insult, one we wish to correct, and should you cover for their actions we would be forced to ally with Venezuela to counter. We have no opinions on the tensions between you and the Venezuelans, but would be forced to pick a side should you remain opposed to us.
With respect,
Andrés de Santa Cruz y Calahumana'
Well, you know what I say? I say, I say, that the native-fucking respect of 'King Andrés' of La Paz ain't worth shit! His shallow threats are nothing more than an attempt to divide and conquer the civilized peoples of South America beneath their barbaric, abolitionist, yoke, and we shall be neither slaves to them nor driven off our shores once again! We shall make our stand as our ancestors did in 1776, united as they were against the heel of tyranny that threatened to crush them and shall emerge victorious!
God bless Texas!"
