The 25th of July 1830, at the Château of Saint-Cloud Charles X is firm. The recent election brought back a liberal chamber which was asking the resignation of his minister Polignac and his government. But, bolstered by the success of the Algiers campaign and reassured by the chief of police that Paris is stable, he won't yield.
“The first retreat my unfortunate brother Louis XVI made was the signal for his undoing.
They pretend to have a quarrel only with you; they tell me: "Dismiss your ministers, and we shall come to an understanding." I will not dismiss you.
If I were to yield to their demands this time, they would end up treating us as they treated my brother.”
"This parliament wants to impose his will, to impose on me which minister I should choose but they forgot one thing. I’m the King closed by God himself, and it’s by my good will that they hold any power through the Charter. I must show them who hold authority in this country. Who is the legitimate King of France."
The next day were published ordinances suspending the liberty of press and announcing new election with a more restricted electorate
Four days later Charles X is forced to flee Paris before abdicating the 2nd of August and go into exile the 16th
